One of the best fish and chips I've had. The ceviche featuring cara cara oranges (I think) is sweet, tangy, and a perfect pair to the salty crunch of tortilla chips. A bonus: I really appreciated the transparency of their seafood sourcing. When we're back in Outer Sunset, we'll be back at Hook Fish.

Some of the best fish I've had in the city. Hands down. Everything is very, very fresh. I had the fish and chips which melted in my mouth. I feel like the fries are usually just kind of a meh add on with typical fish and chips, but that's not the case at this place. The fries were arguably better than the fish! We also got the fish tacos which were very good as well. As I was writing this review I asked my wife if we should go back for dinner tonight. Great vibes over in the sunset district (though a bit cold at night so bring a jacket!). Nice little outdoor seating. Very kind staff. Fair $.

Today Friday my husband & I wanted to try out this restaurant that I saw on social media. Unfortunately it was cold, some wind & cloudy so we decided to order to go. The cashier guy was so nice explaining the best order from the menu. I ordered the poke burrito and my hubby ordered his favorite fish (3 pieces) & chips. He chose the rockfish for white fish. If the weather was sunny, we could had eaten in their outdoor dining area. The fish was really fresh and I liked how the batter covered the fish, not thick and I was really eating the actual fish. Seasoning was just right. The cashier suggested the poke burrito for a change for me, oh my, it was so delish. Adding the hot sauce, made my mouth watery. Just like the social media reviewed, I really recommend this restaurant that is the favorite of the locals and surfers and near the Ocean Beach. We shall return.

We came to Hook Fish on Saturday at 4 PM. It's right by the N train muni/Ocean Beach and the location is really nice! We ordered inside at the counter, and it was pretty crowded but we were able to find one of the benches outside to sit pretty quickly. The food came out super quick and there wasn't much service and instead you more so just grab it and eat. The fish burrito was a pretty decent sized portion. There was a good balance of toppings and textures added some nice freshness. The red sauce it comes with is super tangy and not too spicy. I do wish there was a bit more fish (was a lot of rice and beans) but it very filling and fresh! For the fish and chips, the fries are really well seasoned and crispy on the outside but still fluffy on the inside. The fish is super flaky and fresh, and the batter is very delicately crisp. For the tacos, the fish is also nicely fried. It's a good mix of textures and the avocado/creamy sauce goes so well with the fish and the veggies. You do only get 2 in the order but they are pretty big tacos. Overall Hook Fish is a really tasty spot for fresh fish and other seafood. They don't do anything crazy with the fish but it's well seasoned and cooked. I probably wouldn't get the burrito again but everything else is absolutely delicious and I would definitely come back again especially with such a good location!

A very solid fast and casual joint if you're looking for some fresh seafood. I got the Fish & Chips, and although they weren't anything mindblowing, they were very very solid. They weren't very "crispy," more on the soft side, but the cod was very tasty and flavorful. And clearly fresh, which was a huge plus. The fries were also really crisp and a nice complement, and I really liked the green aioli (?) sauce that was served with it -- It complemented the fish extremely well. They have a really nice outdoor patio area which is great to casually sit-down at and enjoy your meal. Or you can take it a few steps down to the beach and enjoy it there. Overall, I'd definitely come back here whenever I'm craving solid seafood by the beach!

We went today to Hook Fish for a picnic dinner to have at Ocean Beach. We've been to the restaurant before as you can tell from my review from a year ago. The food is really good there but sadly, there were some missteps today because we ordered crab cakes and we didn't get them. Instead, we got two adult meals of fish and chips so that was very disappointing. We ate the fish and chips and they were really good but we wanted crab cakes. I guess someone else must have been disappointed because two people must have had to share one order of crab cakes! The blackened salmon sandwich was as good as ever. I love the cabbage and the peppercinis that are put on it. The spiced fries are to die for. We got chips and guacamole and the opposite that usually happens happened. Usually you go somewhere and they give you a large amount of chips and a minuscule amount of guacamole. This place gave us a ton of guacamole and limited chips. I got through it but it was rough. haha The simple salad was amazing. I absolutely love the nutty crackers that they use as croutons. So unique and delicious! The fish and chips were huge! The batter was crunchy and the fish inside was light and white but I really wanted my crab cakes. We considered driving back but it is such a nightmare to park at Hook and Fish and we were tired so that stunk. Lesson is to check your bag before you leave!

Yummmy! But be sure to come early as the line gets long. The fish is fresh and the poke is smooooth. We ordered a fish burrito and poke and chips to share. The burrito is loaded with cilantro rice which made it quite filling while the purple cabbage made for a refreshing crunchy bite. The real star of the show was the poke nachos. Although the bowl looks small there is a good amount of poke in there and the chips are sturdy and crunchy. We enjoyed our meal in the parklet and was able to soak up the sunshine. The honeydew and basil agua Fresca didn't have a huge flavor but the basil seeds made for a fun sip.

This has been a long time coming and I'm glad it was worth the hype. I've heard this was the best fish and chips in the bay. I don't make it into SF much and if I do, it's not this area. Made a special stop to go here with my parents who are big fish and chip lovers, but also walk lands end while in the area. Place fills up quickly, so get there early for a spot and parking. I didn't know there was a spot to line up, so despite being early, we weren't one of the first. That didn't matter since the food came out fairly quickly. We went for fish and chips got the poke appetize. Fish and chips has such an amazing exterior. It was hot, fresh, crunchy, but not overpowering for the fish. The flake salt was just enough to add to it, but not overwhelm. Inside was juicy and fairly thick piece of lingcod. Cod is the normal and there is usually two upgrades. This day was lingcod and halibut. My folks got the regular cod and loved theirs too. The poke was real fresh and seasoned perfectly. I don't have the biggest experience of poke other than typical poke bowls spots, Pacific catch, other places locally, but not poke from Hawaii. For the area and what I've had to compare, it was in the upper tier. My favorite thing about this place, they tell you where the fish was caught and even what boat. You know your getting fresh, quality fish when you come here. I'll be back when I'm in the area
